1 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were 1Lit goodbeautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. 3 Then the Loʀᴅ said, “AGal 5:16, 17; 1 Pet 3:20My Spirit shall not 1Or rule in; some ancient versions read abide instrive with man forever, 2Or in his going astray he is fleshBPs 78:39because he also is flesh; 3Or thereforenevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 The ANum 13:33Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

5 Then the Loʀᴅ saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that AGen 8:21; Ps 14:1-3; Prov 6:18; Matt 15:19; Rom 1:28-32every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 AGen 6:7; Jer 18:7-10The Loʀᴅ was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was BIs 63:10; Eph 4:30grieved 1Lit toin His heart. 7 The Loʀᴅ said, “ADeut 28:63; 29:20I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the 1Lit heavenssky; for BGen 6:6; Amos 7:3, 6I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But AMatt 24:37; Luke 17:26; 1 Pet 3:20Noah BGen 19:19; Ex 33:17; Luke 1:30found favor in the eyes of the Loʀᴅ.

9 These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a APs 37:39; 2 Pet 2:5righteous man, 1Lit complete, perfect; or having integrityBGen 17:1; Deut 18:13; Job 1:1blameless in his 2Lit generationstime; Noah CGen 5:24walked with God. 10 Noah 1Lit begotbecame the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11 Now the earth was ADeut 31:29; Judg 2:19corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was BEzek 8:17filled with violence. 12 God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for APs 14:1-3all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.

13 Then God said to Noah, “AIs 34:1-4; Ezek 7:2, 3; Amos 8:2; 1 Pet 4:7The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. 14  “Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms, and shall 1Or pitchcover it inside and out with pitch. 15  “This is how you shall make it: the length of the ark three hundred 1I.e. One cubit equals approx 18 in.cubits, its breadth fifty 1I.e. One cubit equals approx 18 in.cubits, and its height thirty 1I.e. One cubit equals approx 18 in.cubits. 16  “You shall make a 1Or roofwindow for the ark, and finish it to a cubit from 2Lit abovethe top; and set the door of the ark in the side of it; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17  “Behold, A2 Pet 2:5I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish. 18  “But I will establish AGen 9:9-16; 17:7My covenant with you; and BGen 7:7you shall enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19  “AGen 7:2, 14, 15And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20  “AGen 7:3Of the birds after their kind, and of the animals after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. 21  “As for you, take for yourself some of all AGen 1:29, 30food which is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be for food for you and for them.” 22 AGen 7:5; Heb 11:7Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did.
