9 “When you enter the land which the Loʀᴅ your God gives you, you shall not learn to 1Lit do according toADeut 9:5imitate the detestable things of those nations. 10  “There shall not be found among you anyone ADeut 12:31who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one BEx 22:18; Lev 19:26, 31; 20:6; Jer 27:9, 10; Mal 3:5who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who casts a spell, ALev 19:31or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12  “For whoever does these things is detestable to the Loʀᴅ; and ALev 18:24because of these detestable things the Loʀᴅ your God will drive them out before you. 13  “AGen 6:9; 17:1; Matt 5:48You shall be 1Lit complete, perfect; or having integrityblameless before the Loʀᴅ your God. 14  “For those nations, which you shall dispossess, listen to those who A2 Kin 21:6practice witchcraft and to diviners, but as for you, the Loʀᴅ your God has not allowed you to do so.

15 “AMatt 21:11; Luke 2:25-34; 7:16; 24:19; John 1:21, 25; 4:19; Acts 3:22; 7:37The Loʀᴅ your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your 1Lit brotherscountrymen, you shall listen to him. 16  “This is AEx 20:18, 19; Deut 5:23-27according to all that you asked of the Loʀᴅ your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Loʀᴅ my God, let me not see this great fire anymore, or I will die.’ 17  “ADeut 5:28The Loʀᴅ said to me, ‘They have 1Lit done well what they have spokenspoken well. 18  ‘I will raise up a prophet from among their 1Lit brotherscountrymen like you, and AIs 51:16; John 17:8I will put My words in his mouth, and BJohn 4:25; 8:28; 12:49, 50he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19  ‘AActs 3:23; Heb 12:25It shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him. 20  ‘But the prophet who speaks a word ADeut 13:5; 17:12presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or BDeut 13:1, 2; Jer 14:14; Zech 13:3which he speaks in the name of other gods, 1Lit and thatthat prophet shall die.’ 21  “1Lit if you sayYou may say in your heart, ‘How will we know the word which the Loʀᴅ has not spoken?’ 22  “AJer 28:9When a prophet speaks in the name of the Loʀᴅ, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Loʀᴅ has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it BDeut 18:20presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.
