The Sin and Treachery of Judah
1 “At that time,” declares the Loʀᴅ, “they will AEzek 6:5bring out the bones of the kings of Judah and the bones of its princes, and the bones of the priests and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem from their graves. 2 “They will spread them out to the sun, the moon and to all the A2 Kin 23:5; Jer 19:13; Zeph 1:5; Acts 7:42host of heaven, which they have loved and which they have served, and which they have gone after and which they have sought, and which they have worshiped. They will not be gathered BJer 22:19; 36:30or buried; C2 Kin 9:37; Ps 83:10; Jer 9:22they will be as dung on the face of the ground. 3 “And AJob 3:21, 22; 7:15, 16; Jon 4:3; Rev 9:6death will be chosen rather than life by all the remnant that remains of this evil family, that remains in all the BDeut 30:1, 4; Jer 23:3, 8; 29:14places to which I have driven them,” declares the Loʀᴅ of hosts.
4 “You shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Loʀᴅ,
“Do men AProv 24:16; Amos 5:2; Mic 7:8fall and not get up again?
Does one turn away and not 1Lit turn backrepent?
5 “Why then has this people, Jerusalem,
AJer 5:6; 7:24Turned away in continual apostasy?
They BJer 5:27; 9:6hold fast to deceit,
They CJer 5:3refuse to return.
6 “I APs 14:2; Mal 3:16have listened and heard,
They have spoken what is not right;
BEzek 22:30; Mic 7:2; Rev 9:20No man repented of his wickedness,
Saying, ‘What have I done?’
Everyone turned to his course,

7 “Even the stork in the sky

And the BSong 2:12turtledove and the swift and the thrush
Observe the time of their 1Lit comingmigration;

The ordinance of the Loʀᴅ.
8 “AJob 5:12, 13; Jer 4:22; Rom 1:22How can you say, ‘We are wise,
And the law of the Loʀᴅ is with us’?
But behold, the lying pen of the scribes
Has made it into a lie.
9 “The wise men are AIs 19:11; Jer 6:15; 1 Cor 1:27put to shame,
They are dismayed and caught;
Behold, they have BJer 6:19rejected the word of the Loʀᴅ,
And what kind of wisdom do they have?
10 “Therefore I will ADeut 28:30; Jer 6:12, 13; 38:22fgive their wives to others,
Their fields to 1Lit possessing onesnew owners;
Because from the least even to the greatest
Everyone is BIs 56:11; 57:17; Jer 6:13greedy for gain;
From the prophet even to the priest
Everyone practices deceit.
11 “They AJer 6:14; 14:13, 14; Lam 2:14; Ezek 13:10heal the brokenness of the daughter of My people superficially,
Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’
But there is no peace.
12 “Were they APs 52:1, 7; Is 3:9; Jer 3:3; 6:15; Zeph 3:5ashamed because of the abomination they had done?
They certainly were not ashamed,
And they did not know how to blush;
Therefore they shall BIs 9:14; Jer 6:21; Hos 4:5fall among those who fall;
At the CDeut 32:35; Jer 10:15time of their punishment they shall be brought down,”
Says the Loʀᴅ.
13 “I will AJer 14:12; Ezek 22:20, 21surely snatch them away,” declares the Loʀᴅ;
“There will be BJer 5:17; 7:20; Joel 1:7no grapes on the vine
And CMatt 21:19; Luke 13:6no figs on the fig tree,
And the leaf will wither;
And what I have given them will pass away.” ’ ”
14 Why are we sitting still?
AJer 4:5Assemble yourselves, and let us B2 Sam 20:6; Jer 35:11go into the fortified cities
And let us perish there,
Because the Loʀᴅ our God has doomed us
And given us CDeut 29:18; Ps 69:21; Jer 9:15; 23:15; Lam 3:19; Matt 27:34poisoned water to drink,
For DJer 3:25; 14:20we have sinned against the Loʀᴅ.
For a time of healing, but behold, terror!
16 From AJudg 18:29; Jer 4:15Dan is heard the snorting of his horses;
At the sound of the neighing of his BJudg 5:22stallions
The whole land quakes;
For they come and CJer 3:24; 10:25devour the land and its fullness,
The city and its inhabitants.
17 “For behold, I am ANum 21:6; Deut 32:24sending serpents against you,
Adders, for which there is BPs 58:4, 5no charm,
And they will bite you,” declares the Loʀᴅ.

“Is the Loʀᴅ not in Zion? Is her King not within her?”

20 “Harvest is past, summer is ended,
And we are not saved.”
21 For the AJer 4:19; 9:1; 14:17brokenness of the daughter of my people I am broken;
