1 Then the word of the Loʀᴅ came to me saying, 2 “Son of man, prophesy against the AIs 9:15; Jer 37:19; Ezek 22:25, 28prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy from their own 1Lit heartinspiration, ‘BIs 1:10; Amos 7:16Listen to the word of the Loʀᴅ! 3  ‘Thus says the Lord 1Heb YHWH, usually rendered Loʀᴅ, and so throughout the chGoᴅ, “Woe to the ALam 2:14; Hos 9:7; Zech 11:15foolish prophets who are following their own spirit and have BJer 23:28-32seen nothing. 4  “O Israel, your prophets have been like foxes among ruins. 5  “You have not APs 106:23; Jer 23:22; Ezek 22:30gone up into the BIs 58:12breaches, nor did you build the wall around the house of Israel to stand in the battle on the CIs 13:6, 9; Ezek 7:19day of the Loʀᴅ. 6  “They see 1Lit vanityAJer 29:8; Ezek 22:28falsehood and lying divination who are saying, ‘The Loʀᴅ declares,’ when the Loʀᴅ has not sent them; BJer 28:15; 37:19yet they hope for the fulfillment of their word. 7  “AEzek 22:28Did you not see a false vision and speak a lying divination when you said, ‘The Loʀᴅ declares,’ but it is not I who have spoken?” ’ ”

8 Therefore, thus says the Lord Goᴅ, “Because you have spoken 1Lit vanityfalsehood and seen a lie, therefore behold, AEzek 5:8; 21:3; Nah 2:13I am against you,” declares the Lord Goᴅ. 9 “So My hand will be against the AJer 20:3-6; 28:15-17prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will 1Lit not be inhave no place in the council of My people, BPs 69:28; 87:6; Jer 17:13; Dan 12:1nor will they be written down in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel, 2Or and you will knowthat you may know that I am the Lord Goᴅ. 10  “It is definitely because they have AJer 23:32; 50:6misled My people by saying, ‘BJer 6:14; 8:11; 14:13Peace!’ when there is CEzek 7:25; 13:16no peace. And when anyone builds a wall, behold, they plaster it over with whitewash; 11 so tell those who plaster it over with whitewash, that it will fall. A AEzek 38:22flooding rain will come, and you, O hailstones, will fall; and a violent wind will break out. 12  “Behold, when the wall has fallen, will you not be asked, ‘Where is the plaster with which you plastered it?’ ” 13 Therefore, thus says the Lord Goᴅ, “I will make a violent wind break out in My wrath. There will also be in My anger a flooding rain and AEx 9:24, 25; Ps 18:12, 13; Is 30:30; Rev 11:19; 16:21hailstones to consume it in wrath. 14  “So I will tear down the wall which you plastered over with whitewash and bring it down to the ground, so that its AMic 1:6; Hab 3:13foundation is laid bare; and when it falls, you will be BJer 6:15; 14:15consumed in its midst. And you will CEzek 13:9know that I am the Loʀᴅ. 15  “Thus I will spend My wrath on the wall and on those who have plastered it over with whitewash; and I will say to you, ‘The wall 1Lit is not...are notis gone and its plasterers are gone, 16 along with the prophets of Israel who prophesy to Jerusalem, and who AJer 6:14; 8:11; Ezek 13:10see visions of peace for her when there is BIs 57:21no peace,’ declares the Lord Goᴅ.

17 “Now you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who are AJudg 4:4; 2 Kin 22:14; Luke 2:36; Acts 21:9prophesying BEzek 13:2; Rev 2:20from their own 1Lit heartinspiration. Prophesy against them 18 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord Goᴅ, “Woe to the women who sew magic bands on 1Lit all joints of the hand; M.T. reads of my handsall wrists and make veils for the heads of persons of every stature to A2 Pet 2:14hunt down 2Or soulslives! Will you hunt down the 2Or soulslives of My people, but preserve the 2Or soulslives of others for yourselves? 19  “AProv 28:21; Mic 3:5For handfuls of barley and fragments of bread, you have profaned Me to My people to put to death 1Or soulssome who should not die and to BJer 23:14, 17keep 1Or soulsothers alive who should not live, by your lying to My people who listen to lies.” ’ ”

20 Therefore, thus says the Lord Goᴅ, “Behold, I am against your magic bands by which you hunt 1Lit soulslives there as 2Or flying onesbirds and I will tear them from your arms; and I will let 1Lit soulsthem go, even those 1Lit soulslives whom you hunt as 2Or flying onesbirds. 21  “I will also tear off your veils and APs 91:3; 124:7deliver My people from your hands, and they will no longer be in your hands to be hunted; and you will know that I am the Loʀᴅ. 22  “Because you AAmos 5:12disheartened the righteous with falsehood when I did not cause him grief, but have 1Lit strengthen the hands ofBJer 23:14; 34:16, 22encouraged the wicked not to CEzek 18:21, 27, 30-32; 33:14-16turn from his wicked way and preserve his life, 23 therefore, you women will no longer see 1Lit vanityAEzek 12:24; 13:6; Mic 3:6; Zech 13:3false visions or practice divination, and I will BEzek 13:21; 34:10deliver My people out of your hand. Thus you will CEzek 13:9, 21know that I am the Loʀᴅ.”
