1 And the word of the Loʀᴅ came to me saying, 2 “Son of man, set your face toward the AEzek 36:1mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them 3 and say, ‘Mountains of Israel, listen to the word of the Lord 1Heb YHWH, usually rendered LoʀᴅGoᴅ! Thus says the Lord 1Heb YHWH, usually rendered LoʀᴅGoᴅ to the mountains, the hills, the ravines and the valleys: “Behold, I Myself am going to bring a sword on you, and ALev 26:30I will destroy your high places. 4  “So your ALev 26:30; 2 Chr 14:5; Is 27:9; Ezek 6:6altars will become desolate and your incense altars will be smashed; and I will make your slain fall in front of your idols. 5  “I will also lay the dead bodies of the sons of Israel in front of their idols; and I will scatter your A2 Kin 23:14, 16, 20; Jer 8:1, 2bones around your altars. 6  “In all your dwellings, ALev 26:31; Is 6:11; Ezek 5:14cities will become waste and the high places will be desolate, that your altars may become waste and 1So some ancient versions; Heb bear their guiltdesolate, your BEzek 6:4; Mic 1:7; Zech 13:2idols may be broken and brought to an end, your incense altars may be cut down, and your works may be blotted out. 7  “The slain will fall among you, and you will know that I am the Loʀᴅ.

8 “However, I will leave a AIs 6:13; Jer 30:11remnant, for you will have those who BJer 44:14, 28; Ezek 7:16; 14:22escaped the sword among the nations when you are scattered among the countries. 9  “Then those of you who escape will ADeut 4:29; 30:2; Jer 51:50remember Me among the nations to which they will be carried captive, how I have 1Lit been broken, or, broken for Myself theirBPs 78:40; Is 7:13; 43:24; Hos 11:8been hurt by their adulterous hearts which turned away from Me, and by their eyes which played the harlot after their idols; and they will CJob 42:6; Ezek 20:43; 36:31loathe themselves in their own sight for the evils which they have committed, for all their abominations. 10  “Then they will know that I am the Loʀᴅ; I have not said in vain 1Lit to do this evil tothat I would inflict this disaster on them.” ’

11 “Thus says the Lord 1Heb YHWH, usually rendered LoʀᴅGoᴅ, ‘Clap your hand, AEzek 25:6stamp your foot and say, “BEzek 9:4Alas, because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel, which will fall by CEzek 5:12; 7:15sword, famine and plague! 12  “He who is ADan 9:7far off will die by the plague, and he who is near will fall by the sword, and he who remains and is besieged will die by the famine. Thus will I BLam 4:11, 22; Ezek 5:13spend My wrath on them. 13  “Then you will know that I am the Loʀᴅ, when their AEzek 6:4-7slain are among their idols around their altars, on B1 Kin 14:23; 2 Kin 16:4; Is 57:5-7; Ezek 20:28; Hos 4:13every high hill, on all the tops of the mountains, under every green tree and under every leafy oak—the places where they offered soothing aroma to all their idols. 14  “So throughout all their habitations I will AIs 5:25; 9:12; Ezek 14:13; 20:33, 34stretch out My hand against them and make the land more desolate and waste than the wilderness toward Diblah; thus they will know that I am the Loʀᴅ.” ’ ”
