14 ‘ADeut 28:15-68; Josh 23:15But if you do not obey Me and do not carry out all these commandments, 15 if, instead, you ALev 26:11; 2 Kin 17:15reject My statutes, and if your soul abhors My ordinances so as not to carry out all My commandments, and so BLev 26:9break My covenant, 16 I, in turn, will do this to you: I will appoint over you a ADeut 28:22; Ps 78:33sudden terror, consumption and fever that will waste away the eyes and cause the B1 Sam 2:33; Ezek 24:23; 33:10soul to pine away; also, CJudg 6:3-6; Job 31:8you will sow your seed uselessly, for your enemies will eat it up. 17  ‘I will set My face against you so that you will be struck down before your enemies; and APs 106:41those who hate you will rule over you, and BLev 26:36, 37; Ps 53:5; Prov 28:1you will flee when no one is pursuing you. 18  ‘If also after these things you do not obey Me, then I will punish you ALev 26:21, 24, 28seven times more for your sins. 19  ‘I will also AIs 28:1-3; Ezek 24:21break down your pride of power; I will also make your sky like iron and your earth like bronze. 20  ‘APs 127:1; Is 17:10, 11; 49:4; Jer 12:13Your strength will be spent uselessly, for your land will not yield its produce and the trees of the land will not yield their fruit.

21 ‘If then, you 1Lit walk, and so throughout the chALev 26:23, 27, 40act with hostility against Me and are unwilling to obey Me, I will increase the plague on you BLev 26:18seven times according to your sins. 22  ‘A2 Kin 17:25I will let loose among you the beasts of the field, which will bereave you of your children and destroy your cattle and reduce your number so that BJudg 5:6your roads lie deserted.

23 ‘ALev 26:21; Jer 5:3And if by these things you are not turned to Me, but act with hostility against Me, 24 then I will ALev 26:28, 41act with hostility against you; and I, even I, will strike you BLev 26:21seven times for your sins. 25  ‘I will also bring upon you a sword which will execute AJer 50:28; 51:11vengeance for the covenant; and when you gather together into your cities, I will send BNum 14:12pestilence among you, so that you shall be delivered into enemy hands. 26  ‘AIs 3:1; Ezek 4:16, 17; 5:16When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will bring back your bread 1Lit by weightin rationed amounts, so that you will BMic 6:14eat and not be satisfied.

27 ‘Yet if in spite of this you do not obey Me, but act with hostility against Me, 28 then ALev 26:24, 41; Is 59:18I will act with wrathful hostility against you, and I, even I, will punish you seven times for your sins. 29  ‘Further, A2 Kin 6:29you will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters you will eat. 30  ‘I then A2 Kin 23:20; Ezek 6:3, 6; Amos 7:9will destroy your high places, and cut down your B2 Chr 34:4, 7; Is 27:9incense altars, and heap your 1Lit corpsesremains on the 1Lit corpsesremains of your idols, for My soul shall abhor you. 31  ‘I will 1Lit give desolation tolay ANeh 2:3; Jer 44:2, 6, 22waste your cities as well and will make your BIs 63:18; Lam 2:7sanctuaries desolate, and I will not CAmos 5:21smell your soothing aromas. 32  ‘I will make AJer 9:11; 12:11; 25:11; 33:10the land desolate BJer 18:16; 19:8so that your enemies who settle in it will be appalled over it. 33  ‘You, however, I ADeut 4:27; 28:64; Ps 44:11; 106:27; Jer 31:10; Ezek 12:15; 20:23; Zech 7:14will scatter among the nations and will draw out a sword after you, as your land becomes desolate and your cities become waste.

34 ‘ALev 26:43; 2 Chr 36:21Then the land will 1Lit satisfyenjoy its sabbaths all the days of the desolation, while you are in your enemies’ land; then the land will rest and 1Lit satisfyenjoy its sabbaths. 35  ‘All the days of its desolation it will observe the rest which it did not observe on your sabbaths, while you were living on it. 36  ‘As for those of you who may be left, I will also bring AIs 30:17; Lam 1:3, 6; 4:19; Ezek 21:7weakness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a driven leaf will chase them, and even when no one is pursuing they will flee 1Lit the flight of the swordas though from the sword, and they will fall. 37  ‘AJer 6:21; Nah 3:3They will therefore stumble over each other as if running from the sword, although no one is pursuing; and you will have no strength 1Lit you will standto stand up before your enemies. 38  ‘But ADeut 4:26you will perish among the nations, and your enemies’ land will consume you. 39  ‘AEzek 4:17; 33:10So those of you who may be left will rot away because of their iniquity in the lands of your enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their forefathers they will rot away with them.

40 ‘AJer 3:12-15; 14:20; Hos 5:15If they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their forefathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against Me, and also in their acting with hostility against Me— 41 I also was acting with hostility against them, to bring them into the land of their enemies—AJer 4:4; 9:25, 26; Ezek 44:7, 9; Acts 7:51or if their uncircumcised heart becomes humbled so that BEzek 20:43they then make amends for their iniquity, 42 then I will remember AGen 28:13-15; 35:11, 12My covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also BGen 26:2-5My covenant with Isaac, and CGen 22:15-18My covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land. 43  ‘ALev 26:34For the land will be abandoned by them, and will make up for its sabbaths while it is made desolate without them. They, meanwhile, will be making amends for their iniquity, 1Lit because and by the causebecause they rejected My ordinances and their BLev 26:11soul abhorred My statutes. 44  ‘Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so ALev 26:11abhor them as BDeut 4:31; Jer 30:11to destroy them, CJer 33:20-26breaking My covenant with them; for I am the Loʀᴅ their God. 45  ‘But I will remember for them the AEx 6:6-8covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that BGen 17:7I might be their God. I am the Loʀᴅ.’ ”
