Former Deliverances and Present Troubles.
For the choir director. A APossibly Contemplative, or Didactic, or Skillful PsalmMaskil of the sons of Korah.
O God, we have heard with our ears,
Our AEx 12:26, 27; Deut 6:20; Judg 6:13; Ps 78:3fathers have told us
The BPs 78:12work that You did in their days,
In the CDeut 32:7; Ps 77:5; Is 51:9; 63:9days of old.
You with Your own hand AJosh 3:10; Neh 9:24; Ps 78:55; 80:8drove out the nations;
Then You BEx 15:17; 2 Sam 7:10; Jer 24:6; Amos 9:15planted them;
You CPs 135:10-12afflicted the peoples,
Then You DPs 80:9-11; Zech 2:6spread them abroad.
For by their own sword they ADeut 8:17, 18; Josh 24:12did not possess the land,
And their own arm did not save them,
But Your right hand and Your BPs 77:15arm and the CPs 4:6; 89:15light of Your presence,
For You DDeut 4:37; 7:7, 8; 10:15; Ps 106:4favored them.

You are APs 74:12my King, O God;
BPs 42:8Command 1Lit salvationvictories for Jacob.
Through You we will ADeut 33:17; Ps 60:12; Dan 8:4push back our adversaries;
Through Your name we will BPs 108:13; Zech 10:5trample down those who rise up against us.
For I will A1 Sam 17:47; Ps 33:16; Hos 1:7not trust in my bow,
Nor will my sword save me.
But You APs 136:24have saved us from our adversaries,
And You have BPs 53:5put to shame those who hate us.
In God we have APs 34:2boasted all day long,
And we will BPs 30:12give thanks to Your name forever. 1Selah may mean: Pause, Crescendo or Musical interludeSelah.

Yet You APs 43:2; 60:1, 10; 74:1; 89:38; 108:11have rejected us and brought us to BPs 69:19dishonor,
And CPs 60:10; 108:11do not go out with our armies.
10 You cause us to ALev 26:17; Josh 7:8, 12; Ps 89:43turn back from the adversary;
And those who hate us BPs 89:41have taken spoil for themselves.
11 You give us as APs 44:22; Rom 8:36sheep 1Lit for foodto be eaten
And have BLev 26:33; Deut 4:27; 28:64; Ps 106:27; Ezek 20:23scattered us among the nations.
12 You ADeut 32:30; Judg 2:14; 3:8; Is 52:3, 4; Jer 15:13sell Your people 1Lit for no wealthcheaply,
And have not 2Or set a high price on themprofited by their sale.
13 You make us a ADeut 28:37; Ps 79:4; 89:41reproach to our neighbors,
A scoffing and a BPs 80:6; Ezek 23:32derision to those around us.
14 You make us AJob 17:6; Ps 69:11; Jer 24:9a byword among the nations,
A 1Lit shaking of the headB2 Kin 19:21; Ps 109:25laughingstock among the peoples.
15 All day long my dishonor is before me
And 1Lit the shame of my face has covered memy A2 Chr 32:21; Ps 69:7humiliation has overwhelmed me,
16 Because of the voice of him who APs 74:10reproaches and reviles,
Because of the presence of the BPs 8:2enemy and the avenger.

17 All this has come upon us, but we have APs 78:7; 119:61, 83, 109, 141, 153, 176not forgotten You,
And we have not BPs 78:57dealt falsely with Your covenant.
18 Our heart has not APs 78:57turned back,
And our steps BJob 23:11; Ps 119:51, 157have not deviated from Your way,
19 Yet You have APs 51:8; 94:5crushed us in a place of BJob 30:29; Is 13:22; Jer 9:11jackals
And covered us with CJob 3:5; Ps 23:4the shadow of death.

20 If we had APs 78:11forgotten the name of our God
Or extended our 1Lit palmshands to BDeut 6:14; Ps 81:9a strange god,
21 Would not God APs 139:1, 2; Jer 17:10find this out?
For He knows the secrets of the heart.
22 But ARom 8:36for Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are considered as BIs 53:7; Jer 12:3sheep to be slaughtered.
23 APs 7:6Arouse Yourself, why BPs 78:65do You sleep, O Lord?
Awake, CPs 77:7do not reject us forever.
24 Why do You AJob 13:24; Ps 88:14hide Your face
And BPs 42:9; Lam 5:20forget our affliction and our oppression?
25 For our APs 119:25soul has sunk down into the dust;
Our body cleaves to the earth.
26 APs 35:2Rise up, be our help,
And BPs 6:4; 25:22redeem us for the sake of Your lovingkindness.
