1 A1 Chr 17:1-27Now it came about when the king lived in his house, and the Loʀᴅ had given him rest on every side from all his enemies, 2 that the king said to A2 Sam 7:17; 12:1; 1 Kin 1:22; 1 Chr 29:29; 2 Chr 9:29Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in B2 Sam 5:11a house of cedar, but the ark of God CEx 26:1dwells within tent curtains.” 3 Nathan said to the king, “A1 Kin 8:17, 18; 1 Chr 22:7Go, do all that is in your mind, for the Loʀᴅ is with you.”

4 But in the same night the word of the Loʀᴅ came to Nathan, saying, 5 “Go and say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Loʀᴅ, “A1 Kin 5:3, 4; 8:19Are you the one who should build Me a house to dwell in? 6  “For AJosh 18:1; 1 Kin 8:16I have not dwelt in a house since the day I brought up the sons of Israel from Egypt, even to this day; but I have been moving about BEx 40:18, 34in a tent, even in a 1Lit dwelling placetabernacle. 7  “ALev 26:11, 12Wherever I have gone with all the sons of Israel, did I speak a word with one of the tribes of Israel, B2 Sam 5:2which I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’ ” ’

8 “Now therefore, thus you shall say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Loʀᴅ of hosts, “A1 Sam 16:11, 12; Ps 78:70, 71I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, B2 Sam 6:21to be ruler over My people Israel. 9  “A1 Sam 5:10I have been with you wherever you have gone and BPs 18:37-42have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a great name, like the names of the great men who are on the earth. 10  “I will also appoint a place for My people Israel and AEx 15:17; Is 5:2, 7will plant them, that they may live in their own place and not be disturbed again, BPs 89:22, 23; Is 60:18nor will the 1Lit sons of wickednesswicked afflict them any more as formerly, 11 even AJudg 2:14-16; 1 Sam 12:9-11from the day that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel; and B2 Sam 7:1I will give you rest from all your enemies. The Loʀᴅ also declares to you that C1 Sam 25:28; 2 Sam 7:27the Loʀᴅ will make a house for you. 12  “A1 Kin 2:1When your days are complete and you BDeut 31:16; Acts 13:36lie down with your fathers, C1 Kin 8:20; Ps 132:11I will raise up your 1Lit seeddescendant after you, who will come forth from 2Lit your bowelsyou, and I will establish his kingdom. 13  “A1 Kin 6:12; 8:19He shall build a house for My name, and BIs 9:7; 49:8I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14  “APs 89:26, 27; 2 Cor 6:18; Heb 1:5I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; B1 Kin 11:34; Ps 89:30-33when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men, 15 but My lovingkindness shall not depart from him, A1 Sam 15:23; 16:14as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16  “A2 Sam 7:13; Ps 89:36, 37Your house and your kingdom shall endure before 1So with Gr and some ancient mss; M.T. youMe forever; your throne shall be established forever.” ’ ” 17 In accordance with all these words and all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.

18 Then David the king went in and sat before the Loʀᴅ, and he said, “AEx 3:11; 1 Sam 18:18Who am I, O Lord 1Heb YHWH, usually rendered Loʀᴅ, and so through out the chGoᴅ, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far? 19  “And yet this was insignificant in Your eyes, O Lord Goᴅ, A2 Sam 7:11-16; 1 Chr 17:17for You have spoken also of the house of Your servant concerning the distant future. And BIs 55:8, 9this is the 1Or lawcustom of man, O Lord Goᴅ. 20  “Again what more can David say to You? For A1 Sam 16:7; John 21:17You know Your servant, O Lord Goᴅ! 21  “A1 Chr 17:19; Eph 4:32For the sake of Your word, and according to Your own heart, You have done all this greatness to let Your servant know. 22  “For this reason ADeut 3:24; Ps 48:1; 86:10You are great, O Lord Goᴅ; for BEx 15:11; 1 Sam 2:2there is none like You, and there is no God besides You, CEx 10:2; Ps 44:1according to all that we have heard with our ears. 23  “And ADeut 4:32-38what one nation on the earth is like Your people Israel, whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people and to make a name for Himself, and BDeut 10:21to do a great thing for You and awesome things for Your land, before CDeut 15:15Your people whom DDeut 9:26You have redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, from nations and their gods? 24  “For ADeut 32:6You have established for Yourself Your people Israel as Your own people forever, and BGen 17:7, 8; Ex 6:7You, O Loʀᴅ, have become their God. 25  “Now therefore, O Loʀᴅ God, the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant and his house, confirm it forever, and do as You have spoken, 26 APs 72:18, 19; Matt 6:9that Your name may be magnified forever, by saying, ‘The Loʀᴅ of hosts is God over Israel’; and may the house of Your servant David be established before You. 27  “For You, O Loʀᴅ of hosts, the God of Israel, have 1Lit uncovered the ear ofmade a revelation to Your servant, saying, ‘A2 Sam 7:13I will build you a house’; therefore Your servant has found 2Lit his heartcourage to pray this prayer to You. 28  “Now, O Lord Goᴅ, You are God, and AEx 34:6; John 17:17Your words are truth, and You have 1Or spokenpromised this good thing to Your servant. 29  “Now therefore, may it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You. For You, O Lord Goᴅ, have spoken; and ANum 6:24-26with Your blessing may the house of Your servant be blessed forever.”
