When he lifted up his eyes and looked, behold, three AGen 18:16, 22; 32:24; Josh 5:13; Judg 13:6-11; Heb 13:2men were standing opposite him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth, and said, “1Or O LordMy Lord, if now I have found favor in Your sight, please do not 2Lit pass away from Your servantpass Your servant by.  “Please let a little water be brought and AGen 19:2; 24:32; 43:24wash your feet, and 1Lit supportrest yourselves under the tree; and I will 1Lit takeAJudg 6:18, 19; 13:15, 16bring a piece of bread, that you may 2Lit sustain your heartrefresh yourselves; after that you may go on, since you have 3Lit come tovisited your servant.” And they said, “So do, as you have said.” So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, “1Lit Hasten three measuresQuickly, prepare three 2Heb seah; i.e. one seah equals approx eleven qtsmeasures of fine flour, knead it and make bread cakes.” Abraham also ran to the herd, and took a tender and 1Lit goodchoice calf and gave it to the servant, and he hurried to prepare it. He took curds and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and placed it before them; and he was standing by them under the tree 1Lit andas they ate.
Then they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” And he said, “There, in the tent.” 10 He said, “AGen 21:2; Rom 9:9I will surely return to you 1Lit when the time revivesat this time next year; and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door, which was behind him. 11 Now AGen 17:17; Rom 4:19Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; Sarah was BHeb 11:11past 1Lit the manner of womenchildbearing. 12 Sarah laughed 1Lit withinto herself, saying, “AGen 17:17; Luke 1:18After I have become old, shall I have pleasure, my B1 Pet 3:6lord being old also?” 13 And the Loʀᴅ said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I indeed 1Lit surely bearbear a child, when I am so old?’ 14  “AJer 32:17, 27; Zech 8:6; Matt 19:26; Luke 1:37; Rom 4:21Is anything too 1Or wonderfuldifficult for the Loʀᴅ? At the BGen 17:21; 18:10appointed time I will return to you, 2Lit when the time revivesat this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” 15 Sarah denied it however, saying, “I did not laugh”; for she was afraid. And He said, “No, but you did laugh.”
16 Then AGen 18:2, 22; 19:1the men rose up from there, and looked down toward Sodom; and Abraham was walking with them to send them off. 17 AGen 18:22, 26, 33; Amos 3:7The Loʀᴅ said, “Shall I hide from Abraham BGen 18:21; 19:24what I am about to do, 18 since Abraham will surely become a great and 1Or populousmighty nation, and in him AGen 12:3; 22:18; Acts 3:25; Gal 3:8all the nations of the earth will be blessed? 19  “For I have 1Lit knownANeh 9:7; Amos 3:2chosen him, so that he may BDeut 6:6, 7command his children and his household after him to CGen 17:9keep the way of the Loʀᴅ by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Loʀᴅ may bring upon Abraham DGen 12:2, 3what He has spoken about him.” 20 And the Loʀᴅ said, “AGen 19:13; Ezek 16:49, 50The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave. 21  “I will AGen 11:5; Ex 3:8; Ps 14:2go down now, and see if they have done entirely according to its outcry, which has come to Me; and if not, I will know.”
22 Then AGen 18:16; 19:1the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, while Abraham was still standing before BGen 18:1, 17the Loʀᴅ. 23 Abraham came near and said, “AEx 23:7; Num 16:22; 2 Sam 24:17; Ps 11:4-7Will You indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24  “Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; will You indeed sweep it away and not 1Or forgivespare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous who are in it? 25  “Far be it from You to do 1Lit after this mannersuch a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike.
