1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Loʀᴅ, saying, 2 “AJer 11:6Hear the words of this BEx 19:5covenant, and speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem; 3 and say to them, ‘Thus says the Loʀᴅ, the God of Israel, “ADeut 27:26; Jer 17:5; Gal 3:10Cursed is the man who does not heed the words of this covenant 4 which I commanded your forefathers in the AEx 24:3-8; Jer 31:32day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the BDeut 4:20; 1 Kin 8:51iron furnace, saying, ‘CLev 26:3; Deut 11:27; Jer 7:23; 26:13Listen to My voice, and 1Lit do themdo according to all which I command you; so you shall be DJer 24:7; Zech 8:8My people, and I will be your God,’ 5 in order to confirm the AEx 13:5; Deut 7:12; Ps 105:9; Jer 32:22oath which I swore to your forefathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day.” ’ ” Then I said, “BJer 28:6Amen, O Loʀᴅ.”

6 And the Loʀᴅ said to me, “AJer 3:12; 7:2Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, ‘BJer 11:2Hear the words of this covenant and CJohn 13:17; Rom 2:13; James 1:22do them. 7  ‘For I solemnly A1 Sam 8:9warned your fathers in the BJer 11:4day that I brought them up from the land of Egypt, even to this day, 1Lit rising early and warningCEx 15:26; 2 Chr 36:15; Jer 7:25warning persistently, saying, “DJer 11:7Listen to My voice.” 8  ‘Yet they AJer 7:24; 9:14; 35:15; Ezek 20:8did not obey or incline their ear, but walked, each one, in the stubbornness of his evil heart; therefore I brought on them all the BLev 26:14-43words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did not.’ ”

9 Then the Loʀᴅ said to me, “A AEzek 22:25; Hos 6:9conspiracy has been found among the men of Judah and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 10  “They have A1 Sam 15:11; Jer 3:10, 11; Ezek 20:18turned back to the iniquities of their 1Lit former fathersancestors who BDeut 9:7; Ps 78:8-10; Jer 13:10refused to hear My words, and they CJudg 2:11-13have gone after other gods to serve them; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have DJer 3:6-11; Ezek 16:59broken My covenant which I made with their fathers.” 11 Therefore thus says the Loʀᴅ, “Behold I am A2 Kin 22:16; Jer 6:19; 11:17bringing disaster on them which they will BIs 24:17; Jer 25:35not be able to escape; though they will CPs 18:41; Prov 1:28; Is 1:15; Jer 11:14; 14:12; Ezek 8:18; Mic 3:4; Zech 7:13cry to Me, yet I will not listen to them. 12  “Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will ADeut 32:37; Jer 44:17go and cry to the gods to whom they burn incense, but they surely will not save them in the time of their disaster. 13  “For your gods are 1Lit the number ofA2 Kin 23:13; Jer 2:28as many as your cities, O Judah; and 1Lit the number ofas many as the streets of Jerusalem are the altars you have set up to the BJer 3:24shameful thing, altars to CJer 7:9burn incense to Baal.

14 “Therefore AEx 32:10; Jer 7:16; 14:11; 1 John 5:16do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them; for I will BPs 66:18; Jer 11:11; Hos 5:6not listen when they call to Me because of their disaster.

21 Therefore thus says the Loʀᴅ concerning the men of AJer 1:1Anathoth, who BJer 12:5, 6; 20:10seek your life, saying, “CAmos 2:12Do not prophesy in the name of the Loʀᴅ, so that you will not DJer 26:8; 38:4die at our hand”; 22 therefore, thus says the Loʀᴅ of hosts, “Behold, I am about to AJer 21:14punish them! The B2 Chr 36:17; Jer 18:21young men will die by the sword, their sons and daughters will die by famine; 23 and a remnant AJer 6:9will not be left to them, for I will BJer 23:12; Hos 9:7; Mic 7:4bring disaster on the men of Anathoth—CLuke 19:44the year of their punishment.”
