CRom 6:16Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel? 3 “Lord, A1 Kin 19:10, 14ᴛʜᴇʏ ʜᴀvᴇ ᴋɪʟʟᴇᴅ Yoᴜʀ ᴘʀoᴘʜᴇᴛs, ᴛʜᴇʏ ʜᴀvᴇ ᴛoʀɴ ᴅowɴ Yoᴜʀ ᴀʟᴛᴀʀs, ᴀɴᴅ I ᴀʟoɴᴇ ᴀᴍ ʟᴇꜰᴛ, ᴀɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇʏ ᴀʀᴇ sᴇᴇᴋɪɴɢ ᴍʏ ʟɪꜰᴇ.” 4 But what 1Lit saysis the divine response to him? “A1 Kin 19:18I ʜᴀvᴇ ᴋᴇᴘᴛ for Myself sᴇvᴇɴ ᴛʜoᴜsᴀɴᴅ ᴍᴇɴ wʜo ʜᴀvᴇ ɴoᴛ ʙowᴇᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ᴋɴᴇᴇ ᴛo Bᴀᴀʟ.” 5 In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time A2 Kin 19:4; Rom 9:27a remnant according to God’s 1Lit choice of gracegracious choice. 6 But ARom 4:4if it is by grace, it is no longer 1Lit out ofon the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.

7 What then? What ARom 9:31Israel is seeking, it has not obtained, but 1Lit the electionthose who were chosen obtained it, and the rest were BMark 6:52; Rom 9:18; 11:25; 2 Cor 3:14hardened; 8 just as it is written,

17 But if some of the AJer 11:16; John 15:2branches were broken off, and BEph 2:11ffyou, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the 1Lit root of the fatnessrich root of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that AJohn 4:22it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you. 19 ARom 9:19You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20 Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you ARom 5:2; 1 Cor 10:12; 2 Cor 1:24stand by your faith. BRom 12:16; 1 Tim 6:17; 1 Pet 1:17Do not be conceited, but fear; 21 for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either. 22 Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s ARom 2:4kindness, B1 Cor 15:2; Heb 3:6, 14if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also CJohn 15:2will be cut off. 23 And they also, A2 Cor 3:16if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?

25 For ARom 1:13I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this BMatt 13:11; Rom 16:25; 1 Cor 2:7-10; Eph 3:3-5, 9mystery—so that you will not be CRom 12:16wise in your own estimation—that a partial DRom 11:7hardening has happened to Israel until the ELuke 21:24; John 10:16; Rom 11:12fullness of the Gentiles has come in; 26 and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written,
