The Warnings of History to the Ungodly
1Gr JudasAMatt 13:55; Mark 6:3; [Luke 6:16; John 14:22; Acts 1:13]Jude, a BRom 1:1bond-servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of 2Or JacobJames,
To CRom 1:6fthose who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and DJohn 17:11f; 1 Pet 1:5; Jude 21kept for Jesus Christ: AGal 6:16; 1 Tim 1:2May mercy and peace and love B1 Pet 1:2; 2 Pet 1:2be multiplied to you.
AHeb 6:9; Jude 1, 17, 20Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our BTitus 1:4common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you C1 Tim 6:12contend earnestly for DActs 6:7; Jude 20the faith which was once for all E2 Pet 2:21handed down to FActs 9:13the 1Or holy onessaints. For certain persons have AGal 2:4; 2 Tim 3:6crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand 1Or written about...long agoB1 Pet 2:8marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn CActs 11:23the grace of our God into D2 Pet 2:7licentiousness and E2 Tim 2:12; Titus 1:16; 2 Pet 2:1; 1 John 2:22deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Now I desire to A2 Pet 1:12f; 3:1fremind you, though B1 John 2:20you know all things once for all, that 1Two early mss read Jesusthe Lord, CEx 12:51; 1 Cor 10:5-10; Heb 3:16fafter saving a people out of the land of Egypt, 2Lit the second timesubsequently destroyed those who did not believe. And A2 Pet 2:4angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has B2 Pet 2:9kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day, just as AGen 19:24f; 2 Pet 2:6Sodom and Gomorrah and the BDeut 29:23; Hos 11:8cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and C2 Pet 2:2went after 1Lit different or other fleshstrange flesh, are exhibited as an 2Or example of eternal fire, in undergoing punishmentD2 Pet 2:6example in undergoing the EMatt 25:41; 2 Thess 1:8f; 2 Pet 3:7punishment of eternal fire.
Yet in the same way these men, also by dreaming, A2 Pet 2:10defile the flesh, and reject authority, and revile 1Lit gloriesangelic majesties. But ADan 10:13, 21; 12:1; Rev 12:7Michael B1 Thess 4:16; 2 Pet 2:11the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about CDeut 34:6the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, “DZech 3:2The Lord rebuke you!” 10 But A2 Pet 2:12these men revile the things which they do not understand; and BPhil 3:19the things which they know by instinct, A2 Pet 2:12like unreasoning animals, by these things they are 1Lit corrupteddestroyed. 11 Woe to them! For they have gone AGen 4:3-8; Heb 11:4; 1 John 3:12the way of Cain, and for pay 1Lit they have poured themselves outthey have rushed headlong into BNum 31:16; 2 Pet 2:15; Rev 2:14the error of Balaam, and CNum 16:1-3, 31-35perished in the rebellion of Korah. 12 These are the men who are 1Or stainshidden reefs A1 Cor 11:20ff; 2 Pet 2:13 and mgin your love feasts when they feast with you BEzek 34:2, 8, 10without fear, caring for themselves; CProv 25:14; 2 Pet 2:17clouds without water, DEph 4:14carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, 2Lit twicedoubly dead, EMatt 15:13uprooted; 13 AIs 57:20wild waves of the sea, casting up BPhil 3:19their own 1Or shameless deedsshame like foam; wandering stars, C2 Pet 2:17; Jude 6for whom the 2Lit blackness of darkness; or netherworld gloomblack darkness has been reserved forever.
14 It was also about these men that AGen 5:18, 21ffEnoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, “BDeut 33:2; Dan 7:10; Matt 16:27; Heb 12:22Behold, the Lord came with 1Lit His holy ten thousandsmany thousands of His holy ones, 15 A2 Pet 2:6ffto execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which B1 Tim 1:9ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.” 16 These are ANum 16:11, 41; 1 Cor 10:10grumblers, finding fault, B2 Pet 2:10; Jude 18following after their own lusts; 1Lit their mouth speaksthey speak C2 Pet 2:18arrogantly, flattering people D2 Pet 2:3for the sake of gaining an advantage.
Keep Yourselves in the Love of God
17 But you, AJude 3beloved, B2 Pet 3:2ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by CHeb 2:3the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, 18 that they were saying to you, “AActs 20:29; 1 Tim 4:1; 2 Tim 3:1f; 4:3; 2 Pet 3:3In the last time there will be mockers, BJude 4, 16following after their own ungodly lusts.” 19 These are the ones who cause divisions, 1Or merely naturalA1 Cor 2:14f; James 3:15worldly-minded, 2Lit not havingdevoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, AJude 3beloved, BCol 2:7; 1 Thess 5:11building yourselves up on your most holy AJude 3faith, CEph 6:18praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, ATitus 2:13; Heb 9:28; 2 Pet 3:12waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on some, who are doubting; 23 save others, AAmos 4:11; Zech 3:2; 1 Cor 3:15snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, BZech 3:3f; Rev 3:4hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.
24 ARom 16:25Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to B2 Cor 4:14make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with C1 Pet 4:13great joy, 25 to the AJohn 5:44; 1 Tim 1:17only BLuke 1:47God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, CRom 11:36be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, DHeb 13:8before all time and now and 1Lit to all the agesforever.
