Vision of the Four Beasts
In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel saw a AJob 33:14-16; Dan 1:17; 2:1, 26-28; 4:5-9; Joel 2:28dream and visions 1Lit of his headin his mind as he lay on his bed; then he BJer 36:4, 32wrote the dream down and related the 2Or beginningfollowing summary of 3Lit wordsit. Daniel 1Lit spoke and saidsaid, “I was ADan 7:7, 13looking in my vision by night, and behold, the BRev 7:1four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea.  “And four great ADan 7:17; Rev 13:1; 17:8beasts were coming up from the sea, different from one another.  “The first was AJer 4:7like a lion and had the wings of an eagle. I kept looking until its wings were plucked, and it was lifted up from the ground and made to stand on two feet like a man; a human 1Lit heartmind also was given to it.  “And behold, another beast, a second one, resembling a bear. And it was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth; and thus they said to it, ‘Arise, devour much meat!’  “After this I kept looking, and behold, another one, ARev 13:2like a leopard, which had on its 1Or sidesback four wings of a bird; the beast also had BDan 8:22four heads, and dominion was given to it.  “After this I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, a ADan 7:19, 20, 23fourth beast, dreadful and terrifying and extremely strong; and it had large iron teeth. It devoured and crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet; and it was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had BRev 12:3; 13:1ten horns.  “While I was contemplating the horns, behold, ADan 8:9another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before it; and behold, 1Lit in this horn were eyesthis horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man and BRev 13:5, 6a mouth uttering great boasts.

The Ancient of Days Reigns
“I kept looking

And the Ancient of Days took His seat;
His BMark 9:3vesture was like white snow
And the CRev 1:14hair of His head like pure wool.

The Vision Interpreted
15 “As for me, Daniel, my spirit was distressed 1Lit in the midst of its sheathwithin me, and the ADan 7:1visions 2Lit of my headin my mind kept BDan 4:19; 7:28alarming me. 16  “I approached one of those who were AZech 1:9, 19; Rev 5:5; 7:13, 14standing by and began asking him the 1Lit truth concerningexact meaning of all this. So he BDan 8:16, 17; 9:22told me and made known to me the interpretation of these things: 17 ‘These great beasts, which are four in number, are four kings who will arise from the earth. 18  ‘But the 1Lit holy onesADan 7:22, 25, 27saints of the Highest One will BPs 149:5-9; Is 60:12-14; Dan 7:14; Rev 2:26, 27; 20:4; 22:5receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, 2Lit and unto the age of the agesfor all ages to come.’
19 “Then I desired to know the 1Lit truth concerningexact meaning of the ADan 7:7, 8fourth beast, which was different from all 2Lit of themthe others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its claws of bronze, and which devoured, crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet, 20 and the meaning of the ten horns that were on its head and the other horn which came up, and before which three of them fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth uttering great boasts and 1Lit its appearance was largerwhich was larger in appearance than its associates. 21  “I kept looking, and that horn was ARev 11:7; 13:7waging war with the 1Lit holy onessaints and overpowering them 22 until the Ancient of Days came and ADan 7:10; 1 Cor 6:2, 3judgment was 1Lit given forpassed in favor of the 2Lit holy onessaints of the Highest One, and the time arrived when the 2Lit holy onessaints took possession of the kingdom.
23 “Thus he said: ‘The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth and tread it down and crush it. 24  ‘As for the ADan 7:7; Rev 17:12ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will subdue three kings. 25  ‘He will ADan 11:36; Rev 13:6speak 1Lit wordsout against the BDan 3:26; 4:2, 17, 34Most High and CRev 13:7; 18:24wear down the 2Lit holy onessaints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make DDan 2:21alterations in times and in law; and 3I.e. the saintsthey will be given into his hand for a 4I.e. year(s)EDan 12:7; Rev 12:14time, 4I.e. year(s)times, and half a 4I.e. year(s)time. 26  ‘But the court will sit for judgment, and his dominion will be ARev 17:14; 19:2taken away, 1Lit to annihilate and to destroyannihilated and destroyed 2Lit to the endforever. 27  ‘Then the 1Or kingdomAIs 54:3; Dan 7:14, 18, 22; Rev 20:4sovereignty, the dominion and the greatness of all the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be given to the people of the 2Lit holy onessaints of the Highest One; His kingdom will be an BPs 145:13; Is 9:7; Dan 2:44; 4:34; 7:14; Luke 1:33; Rev 11:15; 22:5everlasting kingdom, and all the dominions will CPs 2:6-12; 22:27; 72:11; 86:9; Is 60:12; Rev 11:1serve and obey Him.’
