1 In the eighth month of the second year of AEzra 4:24; 6:15; Hag 1:15; 2:10; Zech 1:7; 7:1Darius, the word of the Loʀᴅ came to BEzra 5:1; 6:14; Zech 7:1; Matt 23:35; Luke 11:51Zechariah the prophet, the son of Berechiah, the son of CNeh 12:4, 16Iddo saying, 2 “The Loʀᴅ was very A2 Chr 36:16; Jer 44:6; Ezek 8:18; Zech 1:15angry with your fathers. 3  “Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Loʀᴅ of hosts, “AIs 31:6; 44:22; Mal 3:7Return to Me,” declares the Loʀᴅ of hosts, “that I may return to you,” says the Loʀᴅ of hosts. 4 “Do not be APs 78:8; 106:6, 7like your fathers, to whom the B2 Chr 24:19; 36:15former prophets proclaimed, saying, ‘Thus says the Loʀᴅ of hosts, “CIs 1:16-19; Jer 4:1; Ezek 33:11Return now from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.” ’ But they did DJer 6:17; 11:7, 8not listen or give heed to Me,” declares the Loʀᴅ. 5 “Your ALam 5:7fathers, where are they? And the BJohn 8:52prophets, do they live forever? 6  “But did not My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, AJer 12:16, 17; 44:28, 29; Amos 9:10overtake your fathers? Then they repented and said, ‘BLam 2:17As the Loʀᴅ of hosts purposed to do to us in accordance with our ways and our deeds, so He has dealt with us.’ ” ’ ”

7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Loʀᴅ came to Zechariah the prophet, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, as follows: 8 I saw at night, and behold, a man was riding on a AZech 6:2; Rev 6:4red horse, and he was standing among the BNeh 8:15; Is 41:19; 55:13; Zech 1:10, 11myrtle trees which were in the ravine, with red, sorrel and CZech 6:3; Rev 6:2white horses behind him. 9 Then I said, “My AZech 1:19; 4:4, 5, 13; 6:4lord, what are these?” And the BZech 2:3; 5:5angel who was speaking with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.” 10 And the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered and said, “These are those whom the Loʀᴅ has sent to 1Lit walk about throughAJob 1:7; Zech 1:11; 4:10; 6:5-8patrol the earth.” 11 So they answered the angel of the Loʀᴅ who was AZech 1:8, 10standing among the myrtle trees and said, “We have 1Lit walked about throughpatrolled the earth, and behold, BIs 14:7all the earth is 2Lit sittingpeaceful and quiet.”

12 Then the angel of the Loʀᴅ said, “O Loʀᴅ of hosts, APs 74:10; Jer 12:4; Hab 1:2how long will You BPs 102:13; Jer 30:18have no compassion for Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, with which You have been CPs 102:10; Jer 15:17indignant these DJer 25:11; 29:10; Dan 9:2; Zech 7:5seventy years?” 13 The Loʀᴅ answered the AZech 1:9; 4:1angel who was speaking with me with 1Lit goodgracious words, BIs 40:1, 2; 57:18comforting words. 14 So the angel who was speaking with me said to me, “AIs 40:2, 6; Zech 1:17Proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the Loʀᴅ of hosts, “I am BZech 8:2exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and Zion. 15  “But I am very AZech 1:2angry with the nations who are BPs 123:4; Jer 48:11at ease; for while I was only a little angry, they 1Lit helped for evilCAmos 1:11furthered the disaster.” 16  ‘Therefore thus says the Loʀᴅ, “I will AIs 54:8-10; Zech 2:10, 11return to Jerusalem with compassion; My BEzra 6:14, 15; Zech 4:9house will be built in it,” declares the Loʀᴅ of hosts, “and a measuring CJer 31:39; Zech 2:2, 4line will be stretched over Jerusalem.” ’ 17  “Again, proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the Loʀᴅ of hosts, “My AIs 44:26; 61:4cities will again overflow with prosperity, and the Loʀᴅ will again BIs 51:3comfort Zion and again CZech 2:12choose Jerusalem.” ’ ”

18 1Ch 2:1 in HebThen I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, there were four horns. 19 So I said to the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these?” And he answered me, “These are the A1 Kin 22:11; Ps 75:4, 5; Amos 6:13 mghorns which have scattered Judah, Israel and Jerusalem.” 20 Then the Loʀᴅ showed me four AIs 44:12; 54:16craftsmen. 21 I said, “What are these coming to do?” And he said, “These are the AZech 1:19horns which have scattered Judah so that no man lifts up his head; but these craftsmen have come to terrify them, to BPs 75:10throw down the horns of the nations who have lifted up their horns against the land of Judah in order to scatter it.”
