Peter Reports at Jerusalem
Now the apostles and AActs 1:15the brethren who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, 1Lit those of the circumcision; i.e. Jewish ChristiansAActs 10:45those who were circumcised took issue with him, saying, “AMatt 9:11; Acts 10:28; Gal 2:12You 1Or entered the house ofwent to uncircumcised men and ate with them.” But Peter began speaking 1Lit and was explainingand proceeded to explain to them ALuke 1:3in orderly sequence, saying, AActs 10:9-32; 11:5-14I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw BActs 9:10a vision, an 1Or vesselobject coming down like a great sheet lowered by four corners from 2Or heaventhe sky; and it came right down to me, and when I had fixed my gaze on it and was observing it 1Lit and I sawI saw the four-footed animals of the earth and the wild beasts and the 2Or reptilescrawling creatures and the birds of the 3Or heavenair.  “I also heard a voice saying to me, ‘Get up, Peter; 1Or sacrificekill and eat.’  “But I said, ‘By no means, Lord, for nothing 1Or profane; lit commonunholy or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’  “But a voice from heaven answered a second time, ‘AActs 10:15What God has cleansed, no longer 1Lit make commonconsider unholy.’ 10  “This happened three times, and everything was drawn back up into 1Or heaventhe sky. 11  “And behold, at that moment three men appeared at the house in which we were staying, having been sent to me from AActs 8:40Caesarea. 12  “AActs 8:29The Spirit told me to go with them 1Or without making any distinctionBActs 15:9; Rom 3:22without misgivings. CActs 10:23These six brethren also went with me and we entered the man’s house. 13  “And he reported to us how he had seen the angel 1Or after he had stood in his house and saidstanding in his house, and saying, ‘Send to Joppa and have Simon, who is also called Peter, brought here; 14 and he will speak AActs 10:22words to you by which you will be saved, you and BJohn 4:53; Acts 10:2; 16:15, 31-34; 18:8; 1 Cor 1:16all your household.’ 15  “And as I began to speak, AActs 10:44the Holy Spirit fell upon them just BActs 2:4as He did upon us at the beginning. 16  “And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, AActs 1:5John baptized with water, but you will be baptized 1Or inwith the Holy Spirit.’ 17  “Therefore if AActs 10:45, 47God gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, BActs 5:39who was I that I could 1Lit prevent Godstand in God’s way?” 18 When they heard this, they 1Lit became silentquieted down and AMatt 9:8glorified God, saying, “Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the B2 Cor 7:10repentance that leads to life.”
