Jordan valleyArabah. 5 But the army of the AJer 32:4, 5; 38:18, 23; 52:8Chaldeans pursued them and overtook Zedekiah in the BJosh 4:13; 5:10plains of Jericho; and they seized him and brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at C2 Kin 23:33; Jer 52:9, 26, 27Riblah in the land of Hamath, and he passed sentence on him. 6 Then the A2 Kin 25:7; Jer 52:10king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah BDeut 28:34before his eyes at Riblah; the king of Babylon also slew all the CJer 21:7; 24:8-10; 34:19-21nobles of Judah. 7 He then A2 Kin 25:7; Jer 52:11; Ezek 12:13blinded Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him in BJudg 16:21fetters of bronze to bring him to CJer 32:5Babylon. 8 The Chaldeans also A2 Kin 25:9; Jer 21:10; 38:18; 52:13burned with fire the king’s palace and the houses of the people, and they B2 Kin 25:10; Neh 1:3; Jer 52:14broke down the walls of Jerusalem. 9 As for the rest of the people who were left in the city, the 1Lit fallers who had fallenAJer 38:19; 52:15deserters who had gone over to him and BJer 24:8the rest of the people who remained, C2 Kin 25:11, 20; Jer 39:13; 40:1; 52:12-16, 26Nebuzaradan the DGen 37:36captain of the bodyguard carried them into exile in Babylon. 10 But some of the A2 Kin 25:12; Jer 52:16poorest people who had nothing, A2 Kin 25:12; Jer 52:16Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard left behind in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields 1Lit on that dayat that time.

11 Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon gave orders about AJob 5:15, 16; Jer 1:8; 15:20, 21; Acts 24:23Jeremiah through Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard, saying, 12 “Take him and 1Lit set your eyes onlook after him, and APs 105:14, 15; Prov 16:7; 21:1; 1 Pet 3:13do nothing harmful to him, but rather deal with him just as he tells you.” 13 So Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard sent word, along with Nebushazban the 1I.e. chief officialRab-saris, and Nergal-sar-ezer the 2I.e. title of a high officialRab-mag, and all the leading officers of the king of Babylon; 14 they even sent and AJer 38:28; 40:1-6took Jeremiah out of the court of the guardhouse and entrusted him to BJer 40:5Gedaliah, the son of C2 Kin 22:12, 14; 2 Chr 34:20; Jer 26:24Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to take him home. So he stayed among the people.

15 Now the word of the Loʀᴅ had come to Jeremiah while he was AJer 38:28confined in the court of the guardhouse, saying, 16 “Go and speak to AJer 38:7Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, ‘Thus says the Loʀᴅ of hosts, the God of Israel, “Behold, I am about to bring My words on this city BJer 21:10; Dan 9:12; Zech 1:6for disaster and not for 1Lit goodprosperity; and they will CPs 91:8take place before you on that day. 17  “But I will APs 41:1, 2; 50:15deliver you on that day,” declares the Loʀᴅ, “and you will not be given into the hand of the men whom you dread. 18  “For I will certainly rescue you, and you will not fall by the sword; but you will have your own AJer 21:9; 38:2; 45:5life as booty, because you have BPs 34:22; Jer 17:7, 8trusted in Me,” declares the Loʀᴅ.’ ”
