Song of Praise for God’s Favor
1 O Loʀᴅ, You are AEx 15:2; Ps 118:28; Is 7:13; 49:4, 5; 61:10my God;
I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name;
For You have BPs 40:5; 98:1worked wonders,
CEph 1:11Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.
2 For You have made a city into a AIs 17:1; 26:5; 27:10; 32:19heap,
A BIs 17:3; 25:12fortified city into a ruin;
A CIs 13:22; 32:14; 34:13palace of strangers is a city no more,
It will never be rebuilt.
3 Therefore a strong people will AIs 24:15glorify You;
BIs 13:11Cities of ruthless nations will revere You.
4 For You have been a AIs 14:32; 17:10; 27:5; 33:16defense for the helpless,
A defense for the needy in his distress,
A BIs 4:6; 32:2refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat;
For the breath of the CIs 29:5, 20; 49:25ruthless
Is like a rain storm against a wall.
5 Like heat in drought, You subdue the AJer 51:54-56uproar of aliens;
Like heat by the shadow of a cloud, the song of the ruthless is 1Lit humbledsilenced.
6 AIs 1:19The Loʀᴅ of hosts will prepare a 1Lit feast of fat things; i.e. abundancelavish banquet for BIs 2:2-4; 56:7all peoples on this mountain;
A banquet of 2Lit wine on the leesaged wine, 3Lit fat pieceschoice pieces with marrow,
And 4Lit wine refined on the leesrefined, aged wine.
7 And on this mountain He will swallow up the 1Lit face of the coveringA2 Cor 3:15, 16; Eph 4:18covering which is over all peoples,
Even the veil which is 2Lit wovenstretched over all nations.
8 He will AHos 13:14; 1 Cor 15:54swallow up death for all time,
And the Lord 1Heb YHWH, usually rendered LoʀᴅGoᴅ will BIs 30:19; 35:10; 51:11; 65:19; Rev 7:17; 21:4wipe tears away from all faces,
And He will remove the CPs 69:9; 89:50, 51; Is 51:7; 54:4; Matt 5:11; 1 Pet 4:14reproach of His people from all the earth;
For the Loʀᴅ has spoken.
9 And it will be said in that day,
“Behold, AIs 35:2; 40:9; 52:10this is our God for whom we have BIs 8:17; 30:18; 33:2waited that CIs 33:22; 35:4; 49:25, 26; 60:16He might save us.
This is the Loʀᴅ for whom we have waited;
DPs 20:5; Is 35:1, 2, 10; 65:18; 66:10Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”
10 For the hand of the Loʀᴅ will rest on this mountain,
And AIs 16:14; Jer 48:1-47; Ezek 25:8-11; Amos 2:1-3; Zeph 2:9Moab will be trodden down in his place
As straw is trodden down in the water of a manure pile.
11 And he will AIs 5:25; 14:26spread out his hands in the middle of it
As a swimmer spreads out his hands to swim,
But the Lord will BJob 40:11; Is 2:10-12, 15-17; 16:6, 14lay low his pride together with the trickery of his hands.
12 The AIs 15:1; 25:2; 26:5unassailable fortifications of your walls He will bring down,
Lay low and cast to the ground, even to the dust.
