9 ARev 17:1Then one of the seven angels who had the BRev 15:7seven bowls 1Lit who were fullfull of the CRev 15:1seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, “ARev 17:1Come here, I will show you the DRev 19:7; 21:2bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

Her 1Lit luminarybrilliance was like a very costly stone, as a BRev 4:3; 21:18, 19stone of CRev 4:6crystal-clear jasper. 12 1Lit havingIt had a great and high wall, 1Lit havingAEzek 48:31-34with twelve BRev 21:15, 21, 25; 22:14gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east and three gates on the north and three gates on the south and three gates on the west. 14 And the wall of the city had AHeb 11:10twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the BActs 1:26twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15 The one who spoke with me had a 1Lit measure, a gold reedgold measuring AEzek 40:3; Rev 11:1rod to measure the city, and its BRev 21:12, 21, 25gates and its wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the 1Lit reedrod, 2Lit twelve thousand stadia; a stadion was approx 600 ftfifteen hundred miles; its length and width and height are equal. 17 And he measured its wall, 1Lit one hundred forty-four cubitsseventy-two yards, according to ADeut 3:11; Rev 13:18human 2Lit measuremeasurements, which are also BRev 21:9angelic measurements. 18 The material of the wall was ARev 21:11jasper; and the city was BRev 21:21pure gold, like 1Lit pureclear CRev 4:6glass. 19 AEx 28:17-20; Is 54:11f; Ezek 28:13The foundation stones of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was BRev 21:11jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, CRev 4:3emerald; 20 the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, ARev 4:3sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. 21 And the twelve ARev 21:12, 15, 25gates were twelve BRev 17:4pearls; each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was CRev 21:18pure gold, like transparent DRev 4:6glass.

22 I saw AMatt 24:2; John 4:21no 1Or sanctuarytemple in it, for the BRev 1:8Lord God the Almighty and the CRev 5:6; 7:17; 14:4Lamb are its 1Or sanctuarytemple. 23 And the city AIs 24:23; 60:19, 20; Rev 21:25; 22:5has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for BRev 21:11the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the CRev 5:6; 7:17; 14:4Lamb. 24 AIs 60:3, 5The nations will walk by its light, and the BPs 72:10f; Is 49:23; 60:16; Rev 21:26kings of the earth 1Lit bringwill bring their glory into it. 25 In the daytime (for AZech 14:7; Rev 21:23; 22:5there will be no night there) BRev 21:12, 15its gates CIs 60:11will never be closed; 26 and APs 72:10f; Is 49:23; 60:16they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; 27 and AIs 52:1; Ezek 44:9; Zech 14:21; Rev 22:14fnothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those 1Lit who have beenwhose names are BRev 3:5written in the Lamb’s book of life.
