Job Despairs of God’s Dealings
1Lit My soul loathesAJob 7:16I loathe my own life;
I will give full vent to BJob 7:11my complaint;
I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
“I will say to God, ‘AJob 9:29Do not condemn me;
Let me know why You contend with me.
‘Is it 1Lit goodright for You indeed to AJob 9:22-24; 16:11; 19:6; 27:2oppress,
To reject BJob 10:8; 14:15; Ps 138:8; Is 64:8the labor of Your hands,
And 2Lit You shine forthto look favorably on CJob 21:16; 22:18the schemes of the wicked?
‘Have You eyes of flesh?
Or do You A1 Sam 16:7; Job 28:24; 34:21see as a man sees?
‘Are Your days as the days of a mortal,
Or AJob 36:26Your years as man’s years,
That AJob 14:16You should seek for my guilt
And search after my sin?
‘According to Your knowledge AJob 9:21; 13:18I am indeed not guilty,
Yet there is BJob 9:12; 23:13; 27:22no deliverance from Your hand.

AJob 10:3; Ps 119:73Your hands fashioned and made me 1Lit together round aboutaltogether,
BJob 9:22And would You destroy me?
‘Remember now, that You have made me as AJob 4:19; 33:6clay;
And would You BJob 7:21turn me into dust again?
10 ‘Did You not pour me out like milk
And curdle me like cheese;
11 Clothe me with skin and flesh,
And knit me together with bones and sinews?
12 ‘You have AJob 33:4granted me life and lovingkindness;
And Your care has preserved my spirit.
13 ‘Yet AJob 23:13these things You have concealed in Your heart;
I know that this is within You:
14 If I sin, then You would AJob 7:20take note of me,
And BJob 7:21; 9:28would not acquit me of my guilt.
15 ‘If AJob 10:7; Is 3:11I am wicked, woe to me!
And BJob 6:29if I am righteous, I dare not lift up my head.
I am sated with disgrace and 1Lit seeconscious of my misery.
16 ‘Should my head be lifted up, AIs 38:13; Lam 3:10; Hos 13:7You would hunt me like a lion;
And again You would show Your BJob 5:9power against me.
17 ‘You renew ARuth 1:21; Job 16:8Your witnesses against me
And increase Your anger toward me;
1Lit Changes and warfare are with meBJob 7:1Hardship after hardship is with me.

18 AJob 3:11-13Why then have You brought me out of the womb?
Would that I had died and no eye had seen me!
19 ‘I should have been as though I had not been,
Carried from womb to tomb.’
20 “Would He not let AJob 14:1my few days alone?
1Lit PutBJob 7:16, 19Withdraw from me that I may have a little cheer
21 Before I go—A2 Sam 12:23; Job 3:13-19; 16:22and I shall not return—
BPs 88:12To the land of darkness and CJob 10:22; 34:22; 38:17; Ps 23:4deep shadow,
22 The land of utter gloom as darkness itself,
Of deep shadow without order,
And which shines as the darkness.”
