The Excellence of Love
If I speak with the A1 Cor 12:10tongues of men and of B2 Cor 12:4; Rev 14:2angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a CPs 150:5clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of AMatt 7:22; Acts 13:1; 1 Cor 11:4; 13:8; 14:1, 39prophecy, and know all B1 Cor 14:2; 15:51mysteries and all CRom 15:14knowledge; and if I have D1 Cor 12:9all faith, so as to EMatt 17:20; 21:21; Mark 11:23remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I AMatt 6:2give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I BDan 3:28surrender my body 1Early mss read that I may boastto be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
Love AProv 10:12; 17:9; 1 Thess 5:14; 1 Pet 4:8is patient, love is kind and BActs 7:9is not jealous; love does not brag and is not C1 Cor 4:6arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it A1 Cor 10:24; Phil 2:21does not seek its own, is not provoked, B2 Cor 5:19does not take into account a wrong suffered, A2 Thess 2:12does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but B2 John 4; 3 John 3frejoices with the truth; 1Or coversA1 Cor 9:12bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails; but if there are gifts of 1Lit propheciesA1 Cor 13:2prophecy, they will be done away; if there are B1 Cor 13:1tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we A1 Cor 8:2; 13:12know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I 1Lit have become...have done away withbecame a man, I did away with childish things. 12 For now we A2 Cor 5:7; Phil 3:12; James 1:23see in a mirror 1Lit in a riddledimly, but then BGen 32:30; Num 12:8; 1 John 3:2face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also C1 Cor 8:3have been fully known. 13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the 1Lit greatergreatest of these is AGal 5:6love.
