Job Loses His Health
AJob 1:6-8Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Loʀᴅ, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the Loʀᴅ. The Loʀᴅ said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Then Satan answered the Loʀᴅ and said, “From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.” The Loʀᴅ said to Satan, “Have you 1Lit set your heart toconsidered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man 2Or reveringfearing God and turning away from evil. And he still AJob 27:5, 6holds fast his integrity, although you incited Me against him to 3Lit swallow him upruin him without cause.” Satan answered the Loʀᴅ and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.  “AJob 1:11However, put forth Your hand now, and BJob 19:20touch his bone and his flesh; he will curse You to Your face.” So the Loʀᴅ said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your 1Lit handpower, only spare his life.”
Then Satan went out from the presence of the Loʀᴅ and smote Job with ADeut 28:35; Job 7:5; 13:28; 30:17, 18, 30sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. And he took a potsherd to scrape himself while AJob 42:6; Jer 6:26; Ezek 27:30; Jon 3:6he was sitting among the ashes.
Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!” 10 But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. AJob 1:21Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?” BJob 1:22; Ps 39:1; James 1:12In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
11 Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, they came each one from his own place, Eliphaz the AGen 36:11; Job 6:19; Jer 49:7Temanite, Bildad the BGen 25:2Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite; and they made an appointment together to come to CJob 42:11; Rom 12:15sympathize with him and comfort him. 12 When they lifted up their eyes at a distance and did not recognize him, they raised their voices and wept. And each of them AJob 1:20tore his robe and they BJosh 7:6; Neh 9:1; Lam 2:10; Ezek 27:30threw dust over their heads toward the sky. 13 AGen 50:10; Ezek 3:15Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights with no one speaking a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very great.
