“Does Israel have no sons?
Or has he no heirs?
Why then has 1In 1 Kin 11:5, 33 and Zeph 1:5, MilcomMalcam taken possession of Gad
And his people settled in its cities?
“Therefore behold, the days are coming,” declares the Loʀᴅ,
“That I will cause a 1Or shout ofANum 10:9; Jer 4:19trumpet blast of war to be heard
Against BDeut 3:11; 2 Sam 11:1; Ezek 21:20Rabbah of the sons of Ammon;
And it will become a desolate heap,
And her CJosh 17:11, 16towns will be set on fire.
Then Israel will take DIs 14:2possession of his possessors,”
Says the Loʀᴅ.
“Wail, O AJer 48:2Heshbon, for BJosh 7:2-5; 8:1-29; Ezra 2:28Ai has been destroyed!
Cry out, O daughters of Rabbah,
CIs 32:11; Jer 48:37Gird yourselves with sackcloth and lament,
And rush back and forth inside the walls;
For 1Cf v 1Malcam will DJer 46:25; 48:7go into exile
Together with his priests and his princes.
“How AJer 9:23boastful you are about the valleys!
Your valley is flowing away,
O BJer 31:22backsliding daughter
Who trusts in her CPs 62:10; Ezek 28:4, 5; 1 Tim 6:17treasures, saying,
DJer 21:13Who will come against me?’
“Behold, I am going to bring AJer 48:43f; 49:29terror upon you,”
Declares the Lord 1Heb YHWH, usually rendered LoʀᴅGoᴅ of hosts,
“From all directions around you;
And each of you will be BJer 16:16; 46:5driven out 2Lit before himheadlong,
With no one to gather the CLam 4:15fugitives together.
“But afterward I will AJer 48:47; 49:39restore

Prophecy against Edom
Concerning AGen 25:30; 32:3; Is 34:5, 6; Jer 25:21; Ezek 25:12; Amos 1:11; Obad 1-21Edom.
Thus says the Loʀᴅ of hosts,
“Is there no longer any BJob 2:11; Jer 8:9wisdom in CGen 36:11, 15, 34; Jer 49:20Teman?
Has good counsel been lost to the prudent?
Has their wisdom decayed?
“Flee away, turn back, dwell in the depths,
O inhabitants of AIs 21:13; Jer 25:23Dedan,
For I 1Or broughtwill bring the BJer 46:21; Mal 1:3, 4disaster of Esau upon him
At the time I 2Or punishedpunish him.
AObad 5If grape gatherers came to you,
Would they not leave gleanings?
If thieves came by night,
They would destroy only 1Lit their sufficiencyuntil they had enough.
10 “But I have AJer 13:26stripped Esau bare,
I have uncovered his hiding places
So that he will not be able to conceal himself;
His 1Lit seedoffspring has been destroyed along with his 2Lit brothersrelatives
And his neighbors, and BIs 17:14he is no more.
11 “Leave your 1Or fatherlessAPs 68:5; Hos 14:3orphans behind, I will keep them alive;
And let your BPs 68:5; Zech 7:10widows trust in Me.”
12 For thus says the Loʀᴅ, “Behold, those 1Lit whose judgment was not towho were not sentenced to drink the AJer 25:15cup will certainly drink it, and are you the one who will be BJer 25:28, 29; 1 Pet 4:17completely acquitted? You will not be acquitted, but you will certainly drink it. 13  “For I have AGen 22:16; Is 45:23; Jer 44:26; Amos 6:8sworn by Myself,” declares the Loʀᴅ, “that BGen 36:33; 1 Chr 1:44; Is 34:6; 63:1; Amos 1:12Bozrah will become an CIs 34:9-15; Jer 18:16object of horror, a reproach, a ruin and a curse; and all its cities will become perpetual ruins.”

14 I have AObad 1-4heard a message from the Loʀᴅ,
And an BIs 18:2; 30:4envoy is sent among the nations, saying,
CJer 50:14Gather yourselves together and come against her,
And rise up for battle!”
15 “For behold, I have made you small among the nations,
Despised among men.
16 “As for the terror of you,
The arrogance of your heart has deceived you,
O you who live in the clefts of 1Or Selathe A2 Kin 14:7; Jer 48:28rock,
Who occupy the height of the hill.
Though you make your nest as BJob 39:27; Is 14:13-15high as an eagle’s,
I will CAmos 9:2bring you down from there,” declares the Loʀᴅ.
17 “Edom will become an AJer 18:16; 49:13; 50:13; Ezek 35:7object of horror; everyone who passes by it will be horrified and will B1 Kin 9:8; Jer 51:37hiss at all its wounds. 18  “Like the AGen 19:24, 25; Deut 29:23; Jer 50:40; Amos 4:11; Zeph 2:9overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah with its neighbors,” says the Loʀᴅ, “BJob 18:15-18; Jer 49:33no one will live there, nor will a son of man reside in it. 19  “AJer 50:44Behold, one will come up like a lion from the 1Lit prideBJosh 3:15; Jer 12:5thickets of the Jordan against 2Or an enduring habitationa perennially watered pasture; for in an instant I will make him run away from it, and whoever is CNum 16:5chosen I shall appoint over it. For who is DEx 15:11; Is 46:9like Me, and who will summon Me into court? And who then is the shepherd EJob 41:10who can stand against Me?”
20 Therefore hear the AIs 14:24, 27; Jer 50:45plan of the Loʀᴅ which He has planned against Edom, and His purposes which He has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: surely they will drag them off, even the little ones of the flock; surely He will make their 1Or habitationpasture BMal 1:3, 4desolate because of them. 21 The AJer 50:46; Ezek 26:15, 18earth has quaked at the noise of their downfall. There is an outcry! The noise of it has been heard at the 1Lit Sea of ReedsRed Sea. 22 Behold, 1Or oneHe will mount up and AJer 4:13; 48:40; Hos 8:1swoop like an eagle and spread out His wings 2Or overagainst Bozrah; and the BIs 13:8; Jer 30:6; 48:41hearts of the mighty men of Edom in that day will be like the heart of a woman in labor.

And all the men of war will be 1Or destroyedsilenced in that day,” declares the Loʀᴅ of hosts.
27 “I will AJer 43:12; Amos 1:3-5set fire to the wall of Damascus,
And it will devour the 1Or palacesfortified towers of B1 Kin 15:18-20; 2 Kin 13:3Ben-hadad.”

29 “They will take away their tents and their flocks;
They will carry off for themselves

And they will call out to one another, ‘CJer 46:5Terror on every side!’
30 “Run away, flee! Dwell in the depths,
O inhabitants of Hazor,” declares the Loʀᴅ;
“For AJer 25:9; 27:6Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has formed a plan against you
And devised a scheme against you.
31 “Arise, go up against a nation which is AJudg 18:7; Is 47:8at ease,
Which lives securely,” declares the Loʀᴅ.
“It has BIs 42:11no gates or bars;
They CNum 23:9; Deut 33:28; Mic 7:14dwell alone.
32 “Their camels will become plunder,
And their many cattle for booty,
And I will AEzek 5:10; 12:14, 15scatter to all the winds those who BJer 9:26; 25:23cut the corners of their hair;
And I will bring their disaster from every side,” declares the Loʀᴅ.
33 “Hazor will become a AIs 13:20-22; Jer 9:11; 10:22; 51:37; Zeph 2:9, 13-15; Mal 1:3haunt of jackals,

No one will live there,
