1 A2 Chr 7:11Now it came about when Solomon had finished building the house of the Loʀᴅ, and B1 Kin 7:1, 2the king’s house, and C2 Chr 8:6all 1Lit Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to dothat Solomon desired to do, 2 that A1 Kin 3:5; 11:9; 2 Chr 1:7the Loʀᴅ appeared to Solomon a second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon. 3 The Loʀᴅ said to him, “A2 Kin 20:5; Ps 10:17; 34:17I have heard your prayer and your supplication, which you have made before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built B1 Kin 8:29by putting My name there forever, and CDeut 11:12; 2 Chr 6:40My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. 4  “As for you, A1 Kin 3:6, 14; 11:4, 6, 8; 2 Kin 20:3; Ps 128:1if you will walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you and will keep My statutes and My ordinances, 5 then A2 Sam 7:12, 16; 1 Kin 2:4; 6:12; 1 Chr 22:10I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I 1Lit spokepromised to your father David, saying, ‘2Lit There shall not be cut off to you a manYou shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’

6 “A2 Sam 7:14-16; 1 Chr 28:9; Ps 89:30ffBut if you or your sons indeed turn away from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, 7 ALev 18:24-29; Deut 4:26; 2 Kin 17:23then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them, and BJer 7:4-14the house which I have consecrated for My name, I will 1Lit sendcast out of My sight. So CDeut 28:37; Ps 44:14; Jer 24:9Israel will become a proverb and a byword among all peoples. 8  “And this house will become 1Heb highA2 Kin 25:9; 2 Chr 36:19a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by will be astonished and hiss and say, ‘BDeut 29:24-26; 2 Chr 7:21; Jer 22:8, 9, 28Why has the Loʀᴅ done thus to this land and to this house?’ 9  “And they will say, ‘ADeut 29:25-28; Jer 2:10-13Because they forsook the Loʀᴅ their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and adopted other gods and worshiped them and served them, therefore the Loʀᴅ has brought all this adversity on them.’ ”

10 A2 Chr 8:1It came about B1 Kin 6:37, 38; 7:1; 9:1at the end of twenty years in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the Loʀᴅ and the king’s house 11 (Hiram king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar and cypress timber and gold according to all his desire), then King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee. 12 So Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him, and they 1Lit were not right in his sightdid not please him. 13 He said, “What are these cities which you have given me, my brother?” So 1Lit he called themthey were called the land of 2I.e. as good as nothingAJosh 19:27Cabul to this day. 14 A1 Kin 9:11And Hiram sent to the king 120 talents of gold.

15 Now this is the account of the forced labor which King Solomon A1 Kin 5:13levied to build the house of the Loʀᴅ, his own house, the 1I.e. citadelB2 Sam 5:9; 1 Kin 9:24Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, CJosh 11:1; 19:36Hazor, DJosh 17:11Megiddo, and EJudg 1:29Gezer. 16 For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer and burned it with fire, and killed the AJosh 16:10Canaanites who lived in the city, and had B1 Kin 3:1; 7:8given it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife. 17 So Solomon rebuilt Gezer and the lower AJosh 10:10; 16:3; 21:22; 2 Chr 8:5Beth-horon 18 and AJosh 19:44Baalath and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah, 19 and all the storage cities which Solomon had, even A1 Kin 10:26; 2 Chr 1:14the cities for 1Lit thehis chariots and the cities for 1Lit theB1 Kin 4:26his horsemen, and 2Lit the desire of Solomon which he desired to build in JerusalemC1 Kin 9:1all that it pleased Solomon to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land 3Lit ofunder his rule. 20 As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel, 21 AJudg 1:21-29; 3:1their descendants who were left after them in the land BJosh 15:63; 17:12, 13whom the sons of Israel were unable to destroy utterly, CJudg 1:28, 35from them Solomon levied DGen 9:25, 26; Ezra 2:55, 58forced laborers, even to this day. 22 But Solomon ALev 25:39did not make slaves of the sons of Israel; for they were men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, his chariot commanders, and his horsemen.

23 These were the 1Or officers of the deputiesA2 Chr 8:10chief officers who were over Solomon’s work, five hundred and fifty, B1 Kin 5:16who ruled over the people doing the work.

24 As soon as A1 Kin 3:1; 7:8Pharaoh’s daughter came up from the city of David to her house which Solomon had built for her, B2 Sam 5:9; 1 Kin 9:15; 11:27; 2 Chr 32:5then he built the Millo.

25 Now AEx 23:14-17; Deut 16:16three times in a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to the Loʀᴅ, burning incense with them on the altar which was before the Loʀᴅ. So he finished the house.

26 King Solomon also built a A1 Kin 22:48fleet of ships in BNum 33:35; Deut 2:8; 1 Kin 22:48Ezion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the 1Lit Sea of ReedsRed Sea, in the land of Edom. 27 A1 Kin 5:6, 9; 10:11And Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, sailors who knew the sea, along with the servants of Solomon. 28 They went to A1 Chr 29:4; 2 Chr 8:18Ophir and took four hundred and twenty talents of gold from there, and brought it to King Solomon.
