Frogs over the Land
1Ch 7:26 in HebThen the Loʀᴅ said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Loʀᴅ, “AEx 3:18; 4:23; 5:1, 3Let My people go, that they may serve Me.  “But if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite your whole territory with frogs.  “The Nile will APs 105:30swarm with frogs, which will come up and go into your house and into your bedroom and on your bed, and into the houses of your servants and on your people, and into your ovens and into your kneading bowls.  “So the frogs will come up on you and your people and all your servants.” ’ ” 1Ch 8:1 in HebThen the Loʀᴅ said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘AEx 7:19Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the 2Or canalsstreams and over the pools, and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt.’ ” So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the 1Lit frogAPs 78:45; 105:30frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. AEx 7:11, 22The 1Or soothsayer priestsmagicians did 2Lit thusthe same with their secret arts, 3Lit and mademaking frogs come up on the land of Egypt.
Then Pharaoh AEx 8:25; 9:27; 10:16called for Moses and Aaron and said, “BEx 8:28; 9:28; 10:17; Num 21:7; 1 Kin 13:6Entreat the Loʀᴅ that He remove the frogs from me and from my people; and CEx 8:15, 29, 32I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice to the Loʀᴅ.” Moses said to Pharaoh, “1Lit Glory over meThe honor is yours to tell me: when shall I entreat for you and your servants and your people, that the frogs be 2Lit cut offdestroyed from you and your houses, that they may be left only in the Nile?”
10 Then he said, “Tomorrow.” So he said, “May it be according to your word, that you may know that there is AEx 9:14; Deut 4:35, 39; 33:26; 2 Sam 7:22; 1 Chr 17:20; Ps 86:8; Is 46:9; Jer 10:6, 7no one like the Loʀᴅ our God. 11  “The AEx 8:13frogs will depart from you and your houses and your servants and your people; they will be left only in the Nile.” 12 Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and AEx 8:30; 9:33; 10:18Moses cried to the Loʀᴅ concerning the frogs which He had 1Lit placedinflicted upon Pharaoh. 13 The Loʀᴅ did according to the word of Moses, and the frogs died out of the houses, the courts, and the fields. 14 So they piled them in heaps, and the land 1I.e. had a bad smellbecame foul. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he 1Lit made heavyhardened his heart and AEx 7:4did not listen to them, as the Loʀᴅ had said.
The Plague of Insects
16 Then the Loʀᴅ said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, that it may become 1Or licegnats through all the land of Egypt.’ ” 17 They did so; and Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff, and struck the dust of the earth, and there were 1Or licegnats on man and beast. All the dust of the earth became 1Or liceAPs 105:31gnats through all the land of Egypt. 18 The 1Or soothsayer priestsmagicians tried with their secret arts to bring forth 2Or licegnats, but AEx 7:11, 12; 8:7; 9:11they could not; so there were 2Or licegnats on man and beast. 19 Then the 1Or soothsayer priestsmagicians said to Pharaoh, “AEx 7:5; 10:7; Ps 8:3; Luke 11:20This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was 2Lit stronghardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Loʀᴅ had said.
20 Now the Loʀᴅ said to Moses, “AEx 7:15; 9:13Rise early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh, 1Lit beholdas BEx 2:5; 7:15he comes out to the water, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Loʀᴅ, “CEx 3:18; 4:23; 5:1, 3; 8:1Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 21  “For if you do not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and on your servants and on your people and into your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians will be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground on which they dwell. 22  “AEx 9:4, 6, 24; 10:23; 11:7But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where My people are 1Lit standingliving, so that no swarms of flies will be there, in order that you may know that 2Or I am the Loʀᴅ in the midst of the earthBEx 9:29; 19:5; 20:11I, the Loʀᴅ, am in the midst of the land. 23  “I will 1Lit set a ransomput a division between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign will occur.” ’ ” 24 Then the Loʀᴅ did so. And there came 1Lit heavygreat swarms of flies into the house of Pharaoh and the houses of his servants and the land was APs 78:45; 105:31laid waste because of the swarms of flies in all the land of Egypt.
25 Pharaoh AEx 8:8; 9:27; 10:16called for Moses and Aaron and said, “BEx 9:28; 10:8, 24; 12:31Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.” 26 But Moses said, “It is not right to do so, for we will sacrifice to the Loʀᴅ our God 1Lit the abomination of Egyptwhat is AGen 43:32; 46:34; Deut 7:25fan abomination to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice 1Lit the abomination of Egyptwhat is an abomination to the Egyptians before their eyes, will they not then stone us? 27  “We must go a AEx 3:18; 5:3three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Loʀᴅ our God as He 1Lit says to uscommands us.” 28 Pharaoh said, “AEx 8:8, 15, 29, 32I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the Loʀᴅ your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. BEx 8:8; 9:28; 1 Kin 13:6Make supplication for me.” 29 Then Moses said, “Behold, I am going out from you, and I shall make supplication to the Loʀᴅ that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people tomorrow; only do not let Pharaoh AEx 8:8, 15deal deceitfully again in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Loʀᴅ.”
30 So AEx 8:12Moses went out from Pharaoh and made supplication to the Loʀᴅ. 31 The Loʀᴅ did 1Lit according to the word of Mosesas Moses asked, and removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants and from his people; not one remained. 32 But Pharaoh 1Lit made heavyhardened his heart this time also, and AEx 4:21; 8:8, 15he did not let the people go.
